Living Goddess Kumari Mask

Living Goddess Kumari Mask is a cultural crafts handmade by the Newar community wood workers in Kathmandu. The face of the living Goddess “Kumari” is sculpted on a single piece of wood by skilled artisans. Also, the hand paintings are done to give it a perfect look.Kumari, (Young Prepubescent Girl in Sanskrit) is a preteen girl which is worshipped by the Buddhist Newar community in Nepal as a goddess Durga or Devi. Mostly, the Newar people believe Kumari as the manifestations of divine female energy in three cities of Nepal; Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur (patan).After the rigorous selection of Kumari from the Shakya caste of the Newar community, they keep the girl in the Kumari Ghar. Kumari is believed to be the incarnation of the Taleju Bhawani, a Hindu goddess. People worship Kumari until her first mensuration begins because it is believed that the deity leaves her body after that. Likewise, the Royal Kumari is from Kathmandu amongst the the other two Kumari from Bhaktapur and Lalitpur. Moreover, the tradition of worshipping Kumari in Nepal is from ancient time.Living Goddess Kumari Mask measures approximately, 36 cm tall 13 cm wide and 45 CM depth with ±1500 grams and has a hook on its back.Since this mask is purely handmade, the color may slightly vary according to the screen type.
