Discover the flavors of tranquility and nourishment within the enchanting pages of “The Kopan Monastery Cookbook.”
Betty Jung, an American loves cooking. So impressed was she with the food served during a two-week meditation course at Kopan Monastery near Kathmandu Nepal, that she decided to stay on and put together this book of recipes.
At first, Betty was dismayed that the food was vegetarian; but soon she became delighted with Kancha the cook’s daily offering. For three weeks she worked with Kancha in his “smoked-filled kitchen”, and here she presents the best of his recipes, developed over the years to satisfy the Westerners who come to Kopan to do meditation courses and retreats.
Momos, Tibetan Noodle soup, Indian Fried Rice, Kopan Chow Mein, Butter Tea, Chapatis, Stuffed Parathas, Spicy Salad Dressing – forty five recipes of traditional fare.
The Kopan Monastery Cookbook is a tribute not only Kancha, but to all the lamas, monks and nuns of Kopan who have happily shared their hill-top monastery with thousands of Western visitors during the past thirty years.
